News from the Top Flight with Paul “Boxy” Box

So a busy start to the season.

Worcester Warriors v Hartpury saw Clare Daniels as AR, Lloyd Jackson as Match Observer and doing the game admin, myself as 4th official. All Somerset referees.
Next up on Saturday, my first solo Premiership game as 4th/ 5th official, Worcester Warriors v Wasps, with Karl Dickson in the middle and Dean Richards as reserve referee, both extremely welcoming and helpful.
Sunday was slightly different as Bristol Bears ladies took on Gwent Dragons, in a pre-season which had an odd feel as Caryl Thomas played for her Welsh region even though she is a Bristol Bears player. ( You can understand why she has amassed 50 International caps, class player )
Grev Leigh taking over the 4th official position at Bristol Ladies this year, as I moved to Sixways. It was to be a final run through of the procedures and admin ahead of the season, however with a lack of AR’s for some bizarre reason, I ran the touch with Grev going through the motions in the technical zone. As the referee had arrived without his AR flags, the new Somerset Touch flags ( Issued at the last meeting ) were flying in this Premiership level game.
Be prepared for all eventualities, the key to every game !
Lastly Monday evening back to Sixways for Worcester Cavaliers v Newcastle Falcons in the Premiership Rugby Shield ( Last years ‘A’ league ). Max Weston as AR with the 4th official clipboard in my hands once again.
This weekend a trip to Millfield with Rob Owen as referee coach.
